700 Club Covers CT Senate Race
…and uses my footage of the Connecticut Bloggers Float (with permission–I’m happy to have helped spread the word about “the kiss”). I’ll admit, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I think the coverage was pretty fair and quite a bit deeper than I thought it would be too. There are some familiar faces in the report, but I’m not gonna “out” them if you don’t already know who they are. Sorry firepups, no poodles.
Pat Robertson’s commentary at the end is interesting, and in order to fit the time restrictions of YouTube, I did clip about 10 seconds off of his intro commentary (yer not missin’ anything). I’m impressed with David Brody’s report, but I wish they’d have shown more of that Kelly guy, or at least mentioned the name of his website on-air:
Update: Check out David Brody’s blog post from the 7/6 debate, where you can e-mail him comments on this report (the link at the bottom of his post). I agree with the commenters below (and elsewhere) that this is a really good piece of reporting–if only a local station would provide such thorough and balanced coverage. I don’t necessarily think it’s “pro-Lamont” but I don’t think it’s “pro-Lieberman” either.
This is precisely why you’re the “amazing” Spazeboy, Spazeboy.
This might be the most comprehensive report I’ve ever seen on the race. I especially liked the timeline of complaints that CT Dems have about Lieberman – it’s hardly complete, but even those few point put the lie to Lieberman’s claim that this primary is about “one issue”.
I do not like that they bought into the Lieberman frame that being against the Iraq War is somehow breaking from the Truman/Roosevelt legacy. Neither of them was gung-ho for pre-emptively invading another country as far as I can recall. And I got A’s in History, too.
That footage at the end of the SOTU speech was priceless, too.
Thanks for all your work in sharing this. I hope you’ll cross-post to MLN!
“Crunch, crunch, crunch crunch…” That’s the sound of me eating my words. I told many of my pro-Lamont blogging friends that they were nuts for agreeing to be interviewed for the 700 Club. This is one of the best, most detailed MSM reports on the race to date. INcredibly balanced, if not Pro-Lamont, from a highly unlikely source. Even Robertson’s annoying analysis at the end was not an endorsement of Joe.
Politics makes for strange video bedfellows. Imagine my shock to see an interview from the 700 Club on your site. Thanks for your fairness; being an Evangelical Christian you may well imagine that I have a hard time convincing folks that people like us are capable of doing real reporting. Obviously Pat Robertson’s commentary isn’t to everyone’s taste and when it comes to that sort of thing the so-called “Christian Right” isn’t as monlithic as it is portrayed. I don’t know a lot of people who actually watch Pat. In any case, I agree with you that this si good coverage of a sort you won’t find on local stations by and large.
Pat Robertson has a great commentary at the end. You nut jobs on the left ought to listen up and realize what harm you are doing to the Democratic party as a whole. Being a Dem is not about favoring partial birth abortions, gay marriage and bending over and kissing the worlds ass like you all want it to be. Please, get lost…..
On my own blog, I’m told to get lost.
Well, you’re welcome here anytime, Jim–nobody’s forcing you to stay or go. Thanks for the comments.
I didn’t mean it in that context, but point taken. Thanks for the open invitation, some of the other blogs haven’t been so welcoming.
