“Independent Democrat”

It’s official:

Joe Lieberman is going to run as a “petitioning Democrat” and will pull petitions from the Secretary of State’s office to ensure that his name is on the ballot in November.

From the Hartford Courant:

Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman is to announce today he will petition for a place on the November ballot as an “independent Democrat,” giving him a chance to stay alive politically should he lose an Aug. 8 primary for the Democratic nomination.

Lieberman is desperate. This is a pathetic, weasely, low (even for Joe and Sean Smith) attempt to hold on to power by any means necessary. Where was this zeal when Democrats needed it…say in the 2000 election?

I have one new question: WHY IS THE CANDIDATE WITH THE PARTY ENDORSEMENT PETITIONING TO GET ON THE BALLOT?

Kos takes a wild guess at who will be signing Joe’s petitions, Atrios calls Joe on his bullshit, LamontBlog lays it down, FireDogLake asks if any other three-term Senator had to pull a crybaby stunt, and BranfordBoy at My Left Nutmeg invokes my favorite Lieberman graphic.
