McEnroe, Rennie Make Primary Predictions
On this morning’s Sunday talk program, Beyond the Headlines, Colin McEnroe and Kevin Rennie sat with Shelly Sindland to talk turkey about Lieberman’s independent bid, but curiously absent was any discussion of the actual debate (minus Alan Schlesinger, Republican, feeling “left out” of a Democratic Primary debate). McEnroe explains why he didn’t have anything to say about the debate on his blog, and had this to say about an Indy run on the program:
“I’m baffled as to why this thing with Lieberman, and the petitions and the signatures is being treated for the last week or so, as such a big story. I just assumed it was a question of when, not if. I mean, it’s been pretty obvious the whole time he’s gonna have to do this–even if it’s only sort of a belt and suspenders kind of thing, so he makes sure he’s covered either way”
Shelly Sindland asks Rennie, “Who wins the Primary?”
“I think it’s going Ned Lamont’s way. It’s a very hard climb to unseat a three-term Democratic Senator in a Primary”
And McEnroe answers the same question:
“…just to be interesting, I’ll say Lieberman”
Watch the clip to get a better sense of McEnroe’s answer, he made it sound like Lieberman is likely to win just because these things are stacked so much in favor of the incumbent.
Interesting how these guys just totally mock Schlessinger. I actually disagree with them on this one. Based on Joe’s actions, this debate was more about the general election than the primary. When Joe announced he was pulling petitions, Ned should have either backed out or insisted that Schlessinger be allowed to participate. It would have sent the message that Joe had left the party.
Thanks for catching and posting all this great stuff. SpazeBoy, if you’ll post Lost when the TV season starts in the fall, I can just get rid of my Tivo.
