No Bug on Hug Button

An op-ed in today’s paper mentions Lieberman’s new “hug buttons” alongside an obligatory mention of the kiss buttons. The kiss buttons depict Lieberman and Bush smooching, and the hug buttons depict millionaire lawyer Lieberman clinging onto President Clinton for dear life.

From the Courant:

One local Democrat said she liked the new campaign button Liberman’s supporters have made, showing a photo of Clinton embracing Lieberman on his recent visit. The button, labeled “The Hug,” is a retort to Lamont supporters’ button, “The Kiss,” which has a photo of Bush planting a kiss on Lieberman’s mug at a State of the Union speech.

“The Hug trumps The Kiss,” Lieberman said, smiling.

The kiss buttons are union made.

The hug buttons are not.

I know that an op-ed isn’t the place for investigative journalism, but I believe it is a gross error of omission to leave out the fact that a union-endorsed candidate is passing out non-union made campaign materials. Granted, he hasn’t passed out very many of them, since the attendance at his bus stop tour falls between dismal and pathetic, but still the question should be asked: Why is Senator Lieberman’s campaign passing out non-union made campaign materials? Then someone should ask the AFL-CIO what they think about it.

Actually, I emailed AFLCIO and told them.

Official Ned Lamont flyer for distribution. Says “Paid for by Ned Lamont for Seante.”

No union bug that I can see.

What’s worse: an offical campaign flyer from Lamont with no union bug or some buttons made by a supporter and donated to a campaign?

Joe Lieberman has an endorsement from the AFL-CIO.

All of Ned’s buttons and bumper stickers are union-made, and Joe–especially with a union endorsement–should do the same.
