A Reminder About the “Dems for Joe”

In case anyone forgot, I have the complete list of Democrats who campaigned against the Democratic Nominee for U.S. Senate down in the extended text.

These are people to keep an eye on. I’m not one who believes that their support of Joe Lieberman ought to be held against them forever but I think it’s important to establish that these are people who have put themselves above the party once–and may not hesitate to do so again.

One person on the list, Jim Amann, is making news

Why isn’t Bill Clintons’s name listed as a supporter of Joe? Remember the media event for Lieberturd in Waterbury?

Funny thing is, Lieberman will knife them all in the back at his first given opportunity. That’s his style.

  2. spazeboy

That’s a good question, because I didn’t make it totally clear.

This list was copied and pasted directly from the “Dems for Joe” section of Joe2006.com back when the site was still live. These are the Democrats (elected and retired, etc) who formally endorsed Joe.

The list of Dems who tacitly endorsed Joe could be very long.

Bill Clinton only supported Joe BEFORE the primary. After the primary he and Hillary supported Lamont, as far as I know.

  4. James Whalen

yeah, clinton did support lamont after the primary, rememeber Englehart’s cartoon in the Hartford courant? Clinton mentioned he would support the party’s decision.

  5. Dan

Joe Mcdonough the head of the Hamden democratic party also supported Lieberman. The reason I know is because I was thrown out of the headquarters because I was phonebanking for Ned.

  6. confusedliberal

Obama supported LIEBERMAN both BEFORE and AFTER the primary, against LAMONT. Why isn’t this ever mentioned on this blog. Hmmmmmmmm?

  7. spazeboy

Confused liberal is indeed confused. There is no evidence (that I’ve seen) that Obama supported Lieberman after the 8/8/06 primary.

I stumbled on this thread two years after the fact and had a chuckle over Dan, because my district was working there the night he was thrown out. Everyone, including the Chairman Joe McDonough, was making calls for the whole Democratic ticket, including Ned. Dan wanted to call for Ned only, and he was told if he wanted to just call for Ned and not the rest of the Dems he should do so from home. He threw a fit and stormed out. Just setting the record straight two years later.

Oh and Obama did support Lieberman (as did every Democratic Senator I assume) BEFORE the primary, but NOT AFTER the primary.
