Hidden Talent

I’ve met some amazingly talented people this year, and I’ve learned a thing or two from all of them. CTBlogger has a knack for getting the best shot with his still camera. CTBob produces the best videos, thanks to his mad editing skillz. Caffeinated Geek Girl sings a mean parody. BranfordBoy is a bottomless pit of wit.

Those are people I’ve met in the political realm, virtually and actually.

To my surprise (and to illustrate exactly how aloof I’ve been) I recently learned that I also go to school with some very talented folks.

Professor Hamilton is working on a feature-length film while teaching part time this semester. She’s already released a short film called “The Long Weekend“.

Steve Ersinghaus and John Timmons teach a New Media Course at school. Steve has a blog. I have a blog, and therefore consider blogging to be a real talent.

And one of my classmates, Katie Roberge, writes music, plays it, and sings it. I’m slapping myself on the forehead, because I’ve been attending classes all semester long with a kind of sarcastic and cynical tunnel vision. Is it any wonder I’ve made friends in the blogosphere but not really at school? Until now, anyway.

Katie has graciously allowed me to re-post one of her songs here, entitled Double 9s, which is my favorite of the three originals and one cover that are posted at her MySpace Music page:

I’m not a music critic, but I know what I like. Double 9s, I think you’ll agree, is just a great song. The lyrics are mature beyond her 19 years. The vocals are clear and beautiful. I just like it.

Katie is by far the humblest talented person I’ve ever met. If you want to hear more, visit her MySpace music page.
