Spazeboy Hearts Information

Let me preface this by writing that I am not in Colin McEnroe’s blogging class, and so I’m not at all concerned about the quality, originality, or profundity of what I’m posting here.

I was a guest, with many other CT bloggers at Monday’s class: CGG, Gabe, Ghengis Conn and Turfgrrl from Connecticut Local Politics were there. Kirby from CTBob was there. Aldon whose home blog is Orient Lodge (though he has vacation homes on myriad blogs) was there. I’m sure that I’ve left out one or two–at least one that I’m leaving out on purpose. No refreshments were served, but I was forewarned about the coffee (thanks Caitlin).

I met the one student blogger whose stuff I’ve been reading since September, but I regret that I didn’t get to speak directly with anyone else. Of course, for me it was a recreational event that I attended in my free time, for the students it was class and the bell had rung. Fortunately, the conversation can continue in the blogosphere.

Professor McEnroe asked his students to post about their relationship to information. Here’s my answer, with a poop joke.

  • I’m an advocate. I post information that advances causes (lately, candidates) consistent with my worldview.
  • Sometimes, I’m a source. Thanks to CTBlogger, I’ve gotten into video blogging. Once, I was told that I was a vlogger. One reason that’s total bullshit is because I don’t care for the word vlogger. There’s nothing elegant about it. It’s awkward and it suggests a lack of imagination. I prefer “blogger who posts videos” because at least it’s not awkward.
  • I don’t spread information. I take a lot of information in and I digest it. I put the byproduct into a paper bag, set it afire on the front porch of my blog, and ring the bell. The joke is on me.

I’ve accrued a modest audience since starting this blog in June. Now that I’m not writing about Ned Lamont every day, the visits are tapering off.

To expand on what I said in Monday’s class (something that I think made me sound like an egomaniac), I do write on this blog because I have a readership. I feel as though I’m squandering this opportunity. In a few years, when I’m out of college and possibly a decent writer–moderately good even–will I be read? It makes me wish I could hammer out a thorough and thoughtful post about blogging versus the romantic literary movement as quickly and as well as Caitlin did.

There’s no good reason for you to read my drivel instead of these blogs written by students in the blogging class. Collect ‘em all:

…but please, keep coming back for my drivel.

Thanks for the links, friend! I’m duly flattered, humbled, and touched. :)

    Nice post, yourself.

    Night!

Spazeboy- Keep on doing what you are doing. Explore your inner journalist and write about the stuff that interests you, the audience will come. You have a great story, the odyssey of a campaign and how it changed you. Go with it. And, it was great meeting you the other night.
