Phantom Limb
I’m travelling to Iowa today, and as such will be offline for at least the duration of the 20 hour drive. You may not believe this, but we have high speed internet and indoor plumbing out in the red states, so I’ll put up something on Friday (maybe a picture from my trip).
All comments are moderated (as ever), but I won’t be able to approve any until I get ‘net access again, so patience please!
To occupy your readin’ eyes, I’m throwing up a quick post promoting the new single from The Shins’ forthcoming album, Wincing the Night Away so I can focus on packing.
Phantom Limb:
Here’s an excerpt from the lyrics to Phantom Limb, that if you wanted to interpret it in such a way, could apply to the trip I’m taking to my mother’s house in Iowa for x-mas:
We wandered through the mama’s house,
And the milk from the window lights,
Family portrait circa ninety-five,
This is that foreign land,
With the sprayed on tans,
And it all feels fine,
Beats circus slime,So, when they tap our mundane heads,
To zombie-walk in our stead,
This town seems hardly worth our time,
And we’ll no longer memorize or rhyme,
Too far along in our climb,
Stepping over what now towers to the sky,
With no connection.
You may not believe this, but we have high speed internet and indoor plumbing out in the red states,
When I was younger and I would visit the US on family vacations (I grew up in Montreal) I would often get asked questions like:
Do you guys have Electricity up there? TV?
What’s it like living in an igloo?
A typical response: “Fuckin’, eh!” Which would only leave them more confused.
Have fun in Iowa. And I won’t believe they have internet access until you prove it by posting again. lol
Iowa’s not REALLY a red state, its just that Kerry blew really hard.
