Jeez

Either take immediate action, or promise to take action. There’s nothing funny about going through other peoples’ shit.

I don’t have time to write a full post on this, and haven’t read all of the reports. CTBob seems to have a handle on it though:

I think the Democratic Leadership needs to reassess the situation and decide how they would like it handled if Republican aides were guilty of a similar transgression. Then they should lead by example and do exactly that to the guilty parties.

Because otherwise, they’re just paying lip service to their idea of justice and fair play.

Update: This matter deserved more attention than I could give it, and since my school day ended a bit early, here goes.

From a commenter on a previous post:

While I’m sure they both would appreciate your incredulity….it’s confirmed: Lopes and Palmer. And to be clear: this incident IS talking about Rick lopes (legislative aide) and a Mr. Palmer (full-time GAE clerk and former aide to LG Sullivan) versus a ‘$10/hour sessional assistant clerk’.

We think these two “pranksters” should have some sort of disciplinary action taken against them, and though I don’t know all the details firing them should be an option.

Though that’s the same Lopes that four Council Democrats in New Britain broke ranks with the party to back Edward S. Kirejczyk, Jr., the man preferred by Republican Mayor Tim Stewart, we’re looking at two separate issues.

Lopes or no, I still think that the four Council Democrats belong on the “Wall of Shame” though admittedly my wording may be a bit harsh. I’m only sorry that I didn’t put Joe Lieberman on the “Wall of Shame” first.

And now that I’ve had a chance to read the report that was linked by CT Local Politics first hand, I see that the incident is not merely being dismissed as a prank:

“The entire situation is being reviewed by caucus officials,” said Patrick Scully, spokesman for Senate President Pro Tem Donald E. Williams Jr., D-Brooklyn. “It appears to be a case of unprofessional, prank-like behavior that will be fully investigated and will result, if deemed proper, with disciplinary action.”

Of course, Scully should never have used the word prank. That’s what got picked up. I only hope that they take the investigation seriously. Transparency is key here.

And unless the four Council Democrats have ESP, using this to justify their votes is total crap. The Dems should present a united front on these things, especially Dems who are interested in running for Mayor (I think I heard one of them was…).
