CFL Chairman Responds to CT Dems’ Listing of Lieberman as a Democrat

This post has been updated to include a statement from the CFL Vice Chair

Yesterday, I discovered that the Connecticut Democratic Party’s website has added Joe Lieberman’s name back onto their list of links to “Democratic Members of Congress,” and posted about it.

Senator Lieberman no longer wishes to be identified as a Democrat. If he did, he would not have started a new party for his 2006 candidacy for Senate. This morning, I heard from the chairman of the Connecticut for Lieberman Party, John Orman:

John OrmanSenator Lieberman is not an elected Democratic official. As Chair of his fake party “Connecticut for Lieberman” which we have turned into a real party to keep Lieberman accountable, I must say to the Democratic Chair, stop listing him as an elected Democrat. He is no such thing. He does not want to be called a Democrat. He did everything he could do to defeat the Democratic nominee including getting many high ranking Democrats in Connecticut to privately work for his re-election even though he was not the Democratic nominee. I was just invited to the JJB dinner as a Democrat but now I am chair of Connecticut for Lieberman. Does Nancy really want me there?

Lieberman should be listed as the political party that he won under, “Connecticut for Lieberman.” In fact he should be made to join the party which he promised the Secretary of State that he would form. He lied to her so we had to start THE PARTY.

Thank you.

Dr. John Orman, Chair of Connecticut for Lieberman

Since this post was first published, I received a comment from the Vice-Chair of the Connecticut for Lieberman Party, Jon Kantrowitz:

The Connecticut for Lieberman Party is deeply distressed that the Democratic Party of Connecticut is misrepresenting OUR candidate as a Democrat from Connecticut.

The Connecticut for Lieberman Party will not take this insult sitting down. We are organizing a massive protest involving ALL of our party members.

The Senator does NOT represent the Democratic Party. He prefers to be identified as an Independent,. He consistently supports the Republican administration. He has repeatedly threatened to become a Republican. He has all but endorsed a Republican candidate for President, while declining to support our own Connecticut Democratic candidate, Senator Chris Dodd.

Please be advised that if this reprehensible situation, misrepresenting OUR candidate as a Democrat, is not remedied
immediately, we will contemplate taking further action.

Joe Lieberman did not hesitate to abandon the Democratic Party. Listing him as a Democratic Member of Congress is misleading. Am I wrong to suggest that the Democratic leadership in Connecticut should be unabashedly partisan?

If it’s so important for the State Central website to have a link to Joe Lieberman, why not change the list to one of “CT Federal Officials” and add Chris Shays? May as well.

OK, so where are we meeting? I suggest Harbor Yard.

Connecticut for Lieberman needs to have the equivalent of a J-J-B dinner. Who would be the CfL equivalents of Jefferson-Jackson-Bailey?

Amman? Sembler? Shays? CfL can throw an A-S-S dinner.

Is it possible to have Dinardo recalled? If she is not acting in the best interest of CT. Dems, then she should not be Director of the party. From the first, she showed up at Lieberman’s DC celebration, calling him a Democrat long after he was kicked out of the party, including his name on the JJB invite, etc.

I think it is time for a petition for N. DiNardo to either shape up or get the hell out! I refuse to give Ct. Dems Committee any more money, strictly because of her!

    Pam,

I doubt she could be recalled. I don’t think that she’s directly responsible for the website thing, but even if she is, it’s just silly.

Is she fit to be party chair? That’s not up to me, and I suspect that my opinion matters little to her.

This is really about the party. At least we (DiNardo and I) appear to have the common goal of strengthening the party, making it better. The more Democrats we support and elect, the better the party will be.
