Earth Day 2007

There are quite a few Earth Day events happening in Connecticut today, yet the closest one to New Britain is in Plainville:

Earthstock 2007: an Earth Day Celebration
Paderewski Park, Plainville
10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Plainville Conservation Commission will be holding earthstock 2007: an Earth Day Celebration. There will be many eco-friendly exhibits including a bio-fuel car that runs on veggie oil, a composting demonstration, the CT Chapter of the Sierra Club, and Sun Light Solar’s solar trailer, etc. There will be entertainment for the entire family. A sampling of the entertainment for that day will include: The Great Leone performing at 1:00PM, a scavenger hunt, face painting, and Cupcake the Clown. Mother Nature will be on hand handing out seed packets. And there will free Blue Spruce seedlings available to attendees on a first come first served basis. Come on out, it’s sure to be a good time for all.

If doing something small, but meaningful is your thing, try Home Depot, which is giving away Compact Flourescent Lights at all of their stores today. It’s probably just one per customer, but “[i]f every one of 110 million American households bought just one ice-cream-cone bulb, took it home, and screwed it in the place of an ordinary 60-watt bulb, the energy saved would be enough to power a city of 1.5 million people.” That’s a lot of power!

Tunxis students can stop by the Phi Theta Kappa table tomorrow in the 100 building for a free Compact Flourescent Light compliments of the Alpha Iota Alpha chapter.
