Blog Wars at Tunxis

I had a great time screening Blog Wars at Tunxis Community College last night, and wanted to say thanks to everyone who came, especially Professor Steve Ersinghaus and New Britain DTC Chairman John McNamara. They both added a great deal to the discussion, and asked great questions.
Of course, I always think of better answers to questions after the fact, and when Professor Ersinghaus asked about the difference in blog traffic I don’t feel like I had a satisfactory answer. CT Bob and I (not to mention all of the other local blogs) had amazing levels of traffic last year during the campaign, especially while the CT-Senate race was the only major political story in the country. One reason we had so much traffic is that the more work that we put into our sites, the more traffic we pulled in. That explains how we got things going, and how we keep things going, but it doesn’t explain the wicked high traffic from last year. I don’t think the eyeballs disappeared, I think they just moved on to the next big thing, whatever it happened to be.
Why do people keep coming back to our sites? Perhaps a visit to spazeboy.net became a habit; an errant click that became part of the daily browsing routines of more than a few people. I think it might be the videos. After all, you (and by you they mean CT Bob and I) were Time’s Person of the Year for 2006.
Anyway…
Thanks are also due to Connecticut Bob who made the trek from Milford to co-host the screening with me. We showed his original clip from the Joe Lieberman/Barbara Boxer stop at Sweet Rexie’s before the film. Bob’s footage from that event was incorporated into the final cut of Blog Wars, cut together with footage from the BBC cameras, earning him an additional camera credit on the film.
Last but not least, many thanks to Tunxis Community College for allowing me a venue to show the film, and to the Student Government Association for the pizza and soda.
For the benefit of all those who attended the screening here are a few links to some amazing blogs and sites featured in the film:
