In my experience, New Britain’s progressive leaders are always there when it counts. For instance, check out what State Rep. Tim O’Brien reports on his blog about yesterday’s Rally for Health Care:

New Britain, I believe had more elected officials present at the rally that any other city or town. In the photo on CT News Junkie, you can see Rep. John Geragosian, soon-to-be Board of Education member Brian Riley and me when we were up on the stage. Rep. Peter Tercyak was up there, too, though he is not in this photo. And New Britain Board of Education President Peter Kochol and Board of Assessment Appeals Chair Robert Wysocki were there, as well as New Britain Democratic Town Committee Chair John McNamara and Town Committee member Phil Sherwood.

For an issue like health care to draw out 5,000 people on a sunny Saturday is pretty remarkable. The weather conditions were exactly the opposite for the COW rally in March, which drew a crowd of 1,500. So this is not exactly an apples to apples comparison, but it’s pretty much the conventional wisdom now that the majority of Connecticut is against the war. That 5,000 people feel strongly enough that our health care system is broken and believe universal health care is a way to fix it should not be discounted.
