A Blogging Scholarship
I kind of swore off the whole scholarship thing after not being selected to receive one of the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation awards for undergraduate transfer students earlier this year. After spending my entire winter break working on the application, I determined (in the hindsight of rejection) that the costs far outweighed the likelihood of benefits.
But this is quite a bit different. I may not be a Jack Kent Cooke Scholar, but I am a blogger and a college student with a high GPA, satisfying the main requirements of this blogging scholarship. Aldon Hynes of Orient-Lodge and many other corners of the blogosphere brought this scholarship to my attention a couple of weeks ago (thanks!) and I’ve been dragging my feet on applying to it.

* If you win, you must be willing to allow us to list your name and blog on this page. We want to be able to say we knew you before you became a well educated, rich, and famous blogging legend.
I can nominate myself, or I can be nominated by friends (hint, hint). The nomination deadline is October 6 at midnight PST. 10 finalists will be announced on Oct. 8th, at which time the internet voting begins. Voting ends and a winner is declared at midnight on Oct. 28th.
I nominated myself today.
It’s easy. In fact, the essay is limited to a maximum of 300 words. Some personal information about me is required, and so if you really wish to nominate me you may contact me and I will provide it. Obviously, my appeal for nominations is pretty much limited to folks who actually know me already — I sincerely doubt that the kindness of strangers will help me much during this phase.
That’ll come during the voting period, assuming I’m chosen.
No risk, no reward, right? Besides, $10k would pretty much wipe out my need to take out loans next year. Ouch!
Are you still looking for someone to nominate you? If so, I’d be happy to do it
