CT Progressive News Wire – Tracking the Progressive Coalitions in Connecticut

MattW, a friend and fellow front-pager at My Left Nutmeg has just started up a new and exciting side project called CT Progressive News Wire. It’s already got a lot of great content — categorized as legislation, press releases, research and events — and looks as if there will be a steady stream going forward.

I’ve already subscribed to CT Progressive News Wire in my Bloglines reader so that I don’t miss a thing. Bloglines is an RSS reader that essentially tracks all of the updates to your favorite blogs (and many other websites with RSS feeds), so that you can read them all in one place. It makes it easy to keep on top of things in the local blogosphere and beyond, and with the introduction of Matt’s CT Progressive News Wire, now is the time for you to set yourself up with an RSS reader if you haven’t already.

Because I use Bloglines, I recommend it. You can learn more about your options here, and check out the long list of other available readers (a/k/a aggregators) here.

In the tradition of Spazeboy’s Guide to Political Videoblogging, I was going to write a post instructing users on just how to set up their new Bloglines account, but I found two great tutorial videos on YouTube instead.

The first will show you how to set up your account at Bloglines (video by YouTube user dixon9090):

The second will show you how to add a feed to your new Bloglines account (video by YouTube user HBlowers):

When you’re all set up, be sure to add these blog and website URLs (Bloglines will automatically find the feed on these sites):

That’s but a sampling, of course, and you should add all of your favorite blogs. I hope Bloglines proves to be as much of a time-saver for you as it has been for me — I especially like how it allows me to track things besides blogs (like packages and searches).

The moral of the story is that CT Progressive News Wire will help you keep tabs on the progressive movement in Connecticut, and Bloglines will help you keep track of the News Wire and all the rest of the state’s finest blogs.

OK, I followed your directions and added mattw’s news site plus a few more to my list — But I have not done this before and don’t know if I need to log in to view feed, or how/where it arrives.

Could you clarify the obvious for the obtuse? Thanks, spaze.

Yep, you will have to log in to Bloglines to view the feed.

It works kind of like your e-mail. Each site you subscribe to will show “unread items” when they’ve published something new for you to read. At first, everything will have “unread items” because Bloglines automatically puts the most recent 10 items of newly added feeds as unread.

The advantage of using Bloglines (or any other feedreader) is that you can stay on top of your favorite blogs in ONE place. Just like messages sent to your e-mail address from all of your unrelated contacts (friends, family, professional, etc.) come to a single inbox, all of the unrelated blogs that you read come together into one site.

Do let me know how you enjoy using Bloglines.
