Presidential Political Happenings in CT

Hillary Clinton is coming to Hartford tomorrow morning:

When

Monday, January 28, 2008 at 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
Where

The Learning Corridor — Commons Gymnasium
43 Vernon St.
Hartford, CT 06106

That event should be fun. Maybe they’ll sing a catchy tune?

The Hartford Courant endorses Clinton (and Mitt Romney):

The 2008 Democratic contest is a remarkable coming-of-age for the party and the country, with the first viable female and African American candidates and, though he has bowed out, a highly qualified Latino candidate in Gov. Bill Richardson. The door is finally open, mirabile dictu, but it is still ability, and not the accidents of race and gender, that should be the basis on which we select our leaders.

That last bit (emphasis added above) about race and gender is particularly ironic considering the front page article in the very same edition of the paper headlined “The Dilemma Of Race and Gender” that appears to betray the editorial:

The two Democratic front-runners are closely aligned on issues, so the politics of identity has ballooned in importance, prompting new theories on the power of cultural allegiances and sparking “who’s-got-it-tougher?” dinner-table debates.

Last but not least, there is a Democratic debate (among surrogates) at CCSU this Tuesday morning:

Ned Lamont, former candidate for the US Senate and currently an adjunct faculty member in the Departments of Political Science and Philosophy, will present the viewpoint and positions of Barack Obama.

Dan Malloy, Mayor of Stamford and recent Democratic candidate for Governor of Connecticut, will represent Hillary Clinton.

Phil Miller, First Selectman of Essex will represent John Edwards.

Carol Austa, Professor of Psychology at CCSU, will represent Dennis Kucinich.

Paul Petterson, Chair of the Department of Political Science at CCSU, will moderate the debate.

The event is free and open to the public.

Marcus White Hall, 2nd Floor, CCSU, 1615 Stanley Street, New Britain, CT
