LIVE STREAM Ned Lamont and Kal Penn for Obama
Today I’m going to venture into the world of live streaming, which is a departure from the videoblogging I have written about (and done) in the past. So if there are any kinks in the process, please forgive them.
As part of a final push for Barack Obama in CT, Ned Lamont (who needs no introduction here) and Kal Penn (of Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle fame) are appearing at UConn, Wesleyan University, and Yale University today, rallying students to Obama’s candidacy. As you may already know, Ned Lamont endorsed Obama–an endorsement that just got a lot more meaningful since the race is between just two candidates who are polling within the margin of error of each other in Connecticut.
Here’s a live stream of their stop at Wesleyan University (LIVE from approx. 4pm to 5pm EST on Feb. 1, 2008):
Well done! So does UStream now keep footage online and available for viewing after the event is done? Will the video be available long term, like Youtube?
Actually, what’s great about UStream is that you run a little broadcast control panel. So I had the stream going from about 3:45 until the end of the event, I didn’t hit the record button on the broadcast until the event started. If you never hit record, it’s never saved.
But as far as I know, if you record a broadcast, it’s available on UStream for as long as you like, a la YouTube. Overall, I’m really pleased with it.
That’s cool.
Can you also run tape to record an event while you’re streaming it, or does it make you select between one or the other function?
Yeah, you can run tape at the same time. Here’s how I set myself up:
–DV Camera hooked up to laptop via firewire
–External zoom microphone hooked up to laptop directly
Essentially, I was using the built-in microphone on the camcorder to record to tape, and the external zoom mic for the broadcast. This may or may not have been good for the audio I got on tape, but since the sound system in the room was very good, I think that it probably came out OK. I also had no choice. With my computer, USTREAM didn’t detect an audio stream through the firewire hookup. If I had a splitter, I could (and would) have split the zoom mic audio between the camcorder and the laptop.
I’m an 83 yr. old grandma and Im counting on you young folks to get Obama elected! Lets see how good CT can do!!
YES WE CAN
Let’s put pressure on Joe Lieberman to repudiate John McCain’s tactics.
Obama “is not a man who sees America as you and I do.
Obama “has worked closely with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, whose organization bombed the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon, a judge’s home and killed Americans.”
Sarah Palin said about Obama that he is “someone who sees America as imperfect enough to pal around with terrorists.”
These types of comments have no place in our politics. They are designed to appeal to our basest instincts.
If Lieberman can repudiate Bill Clinton for having an affair, he can repudiate John McCain for far worse acts.
