McCain’s Monica? Enter Indignant Joe!

CT Bob is praying that the story in the NY Times about John McCain is true. The NY Times report broke news about McCain’s possible romantic involvement with a woman who is not his wife, way back in 2000.

Personally, I could care less who John McCain is or is not doing the horizontal polka with, but I am excited by this possibility raised by CT Bob:

I just realized that if it turns out McCain was indeed boning this woman, we’ll possibly be treated with the spectacle of Joe Lieberman wagging his finger at him from the Senate floor! Holy fucking shit!

Transcript, with slight modifications emphasized:

“Such behavior is not just inappropriate, it is immoral. And it is harmful, for it sends a message about what is acceptable behavior to the larger American family, particularly to our children.
[…]
He failed to show that he understood that his behavior diminished the office he hopes to hold, and the country he serves, and that it is inconsistent with the conservative mainstream values that he has advanced, as a Republican candidate for president”

Joe wouldn’t do that to McCain of course, because he would only be screwing himself. The “Straight Talk Express” is the only ride he’s got.

I’m not exactly what to make of this, not everyone accused of being involved has spoken. I have never doubted the NY Times on any of their stories and sources but as an undecided voter on this election I’m not letting this sway me. Besides, why the bother? It is my firm belief that no one is ever truly a honest person on a personal or professional level and I don’t care who had relations with whoever, I’m more concerned with people’s personal legislative and political records. Let’s all remember Clinton had his indiscretions too and that didn’t sway too many opinions about him on a political level. If this did, though, have an effect on legislation that resulted in harsh consequences for the public then that is a problem.

But James, the REAL issue is that the woman in question is a lobbyist, and McCain may have used his position to influence legislation as a result of their relationship.

Personally, I don’t care if McCain cruises for trannies at the Holland Tunnel (although it would be hysterically funny if he was caught doing so), but if he did a lobbyist favors in exchange for “favors”, that’s a whole ‘nuther can of worms.

Maybe there’s something to this story, and maybe there isn’t. But it needs to be looked into.

And I definitely agree 100% on that, I just don’t want this issue to come down to personal lifestyle issues. I mentioned in the latter part of my post that as long as this has no harsh consequences on the public (i.e. lobbyist favours with public funds at stake) I don’t really care about anything else.

Forgot to mention, apparently there might be something, I heard that McCain has testimony or another story that broke which gives more credibility to some of NY Times’ information, I don’t know too much about what this is though.
