I was first exposed to Watchmen during my early college years (OK…last year), so imagine my surprise when I heard an 11 year old Smashing Pumpkins tune from a lousy Batman flick backing up the teaser trailer for the Watchmen movie.

I was surprised. It’s hard to imagine it.

www.rohwrestling.com was generous enough to use “Doomsday Clock” as the backdrop for one of their wrestling compilation videos.

Well, here’s a blogger’s rendition of what might be next:

I chose Heavy Metal Machine. Were I aiming for complete tastelessness I might have chosen Tear instead.

In a supplement entitled “Movies Rock” that was bundled with the latest issue of Glamour, the editors list the 50 greatest soundtracks ever. Compiling and publishing lists of this sort are always a good way to generate publicity/controversy, but I think that the claim regarding Drown (the Smashing Pumpkins song included on the Singles soundtrack) is outrageous.

Don’t get me wrong, Drown is an amazing tune. Here’s a contemporary performance, from Sept. 15, 2007:

Truly good indeed, but was it the “last truly good song by the Smashing Pumpkins” or wasn’t it? Below is a list of 10 songs (linked to YouTube videos so you can hear for yourself) that are as good or better, all released after 1992:
